On Saturday, August 8, Lazy Butcher pitmaster Tim Braden packed up the smoker and headed down the hill to Metropolitan State University of Denver for the Colorado Beef Festival — a full day, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., presented by the Colorado Beef Council and dedicated to the best beef the state has to offer.

Festival materials billed Tim as a “Carolina-rooted pitmaster bringing Appalachian smokehouse flavor to Colorado” — which tracks, since that same South Carolina know-how is exactly what he's brought to the smoker at Lazy Butcher since taking over as pit master.
Black Hat Cattle Co. was right there too
Our sibling ranch-to-table beef company, Black Hat Cattle Co., had its own branded tent on-site — same beef, same standards, another Colorado crowd getting to taste what naturally raised, dry-aged Black Angus is supposed to taste like.

Between the live music, the judging table, and steak smoke drifting across campus all day, it was the kind of event that reminds you why this state takes its beef seriously.

Didn't make it to the festival?
You can still get a taste of what Tim brought to Denver — the same cherrywood-smoked brisket, pork, and Thursday steak nights are running every week back at the shop in Evergreen. Check out the menu or stop by and say hi.
